DFWG,
the diabetic foot working group is a
national initiative that aims to
achieve a reduction in lower limb
amputation in diabetics from 80% to
40% over the next 5 years. The
objectives of this autonomous
association are to serve as the
overall representative body of
Diabetic foot care in the Republic
of South Africa, and to promote the
correct management and professional
and allied interests of people with
diabetic foot problems nationwide.
DFWG plans to collect relevant data
in relation to the diabetic foot in
South Africa, and by defining and
establishing relationships amongst
all role players, will maintain and
promote the continuing academic
standards and training of diabetic
foot care.
By becoming a visible role player,
DFWG aims to establish a balance
between the private sector and
Government to the advantage of
patients in both sectors of health
care. Affiliations will also be
established between other countries
who are already implementing a
program of multi disciplinary foot
clinics with the eventual aim of
creating a Pan African Diabetic foot
group.
